“Anti-submarine warfare is a team sport. It requires surface, air and submarine assets to locate another submarine. The importance of the exercise Dynamic Manta is that we are practising that team sport on the equivalent of the pitch out here at sea and we are improving our skill sets as a team.”

“So we have five submarines from four different nations, with nine different countries with nine different surface ships and various different components, along with the fixed-wing aircraft which we call MPA – Maritime Patrol Aircraft – along with the helicopters that are part of the ship's helicopters, as well as two helicopters from a land-based squadron, all in the exercise. “Well, with each iteration of a submarine that is developed, they improve the quiet aspect of the submarine. So a submarine’s main asset is its covertness.
