“We are receiving the first British ship in the framework of the DEFENDER-Europe 20 exercise. This is a large-scale deployment exercise under the lead of the US Army, in the framework of the collective defence of NATO. In this exercise there are 18 nations participating and during this exercise they will test their readiness and their interoperability in the frame of a large-scale land operation.
This is the start for Belgium of this operation that will last until half of May, when all the troops will be deployed into Germany and Poland.
Well, it is one way to show that we are reliable and loyal partners within the NATO framework, so we really want to make this into a success.”
